Employee Assistance Programmes

Do your employees need counselling?

There is an increase in organisations using Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) which shows that they are mindful about their employees’ wellbeing. As well as demonstrating that they are aware of their Health and Safety obligations, it also shows the organisations’ response to their legal requirements to evidence a duty of care to their employees.

In the current economic climate of organisations focusing on targets, budgets and meeting deadlines which in turn increases pressure in the work place, staff may be struggling with emotional issues or stress. Recent research has shown that one in 10 workers has taken time off work for depression. There are many issues that affect everyone from time to time, not necessarily just issues related to work pressures and stress. An employee may suddenly find he or she is having to cope with, for example, depression, bereavement, child issues or dependency on drugs or alcohol as well as tackling a demanding job. If these issues are not addressed, they may develop into more long-term problems, and of course, sick leave.

As an employer having an Employee Assistance Programme shows that you are investing in your people, and therefore investing in your business. An EAP is intended to help your employees deal with personal problems that might adversely impact on their work performance, health and well-being. The EAP service offered by Positive Horizons benefits both the staff members and the employers, so increasing efficiency and commitment, reducing costs due to stress and absence and improving overall business performance.

Managers and supervisory staff can also benefit from our EAP through access to coaching and assistance in the areas of employee relations and other management concerns. Personal development designed especially for you.

How can Positive Horizons help?

We can provide a confidential service which is tailored to your business, and to your employees, to help them overcome any issues that may impact on their work. We can provide short-term and long-term counselling. Our EAP counselling service is available at various locations around west Cumbria during work hours, after work and at the weekend to suit individuals’ needs.

Why choose Positive Horizons?

We provide a professional counselling service. All our counsellors are MBACP registered (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). We will work closely with you to tailor the Employee Assistance Programme to your needs and help you make your employees aware of the benefits of the service you are making available to them.

How does EAP work?

At Positive Horizons we will support your staff by offering individual assessments and a tailored programme.

Number of counselling sessions will be tailored according to your requirements but typically a maximum of six counselling sessions are usually covered by the employer at a cost of £40 per session.

First appointments can usually be offered within a week of referral and can be weekday, evenings or weekends.

What will it cost my organisation to have an EAP?

Some companies charge a retainer fee when signing up to their programme. Here at Positive Horizons involvement in the scheme costs nothing to the employer. Costs are only incurred if and when counselling is actually provided to employees.
